Please file a bugreport as suggested at http://en.openSUSE.org/Samba There you even find hint which logs are needed.
At first glance, i do not see where to file a bug report at that link. I will look closer as time permits (child is running amuck)
2 Samba bug reporting and advanced debugging information If you encounter any problems with Samba in SUSE Linux products please check the Bugs/Samba (http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs/Samba) page.
This might even be a YaST defect. But first we have to check if the tools shipped with Samba and used by YaST are working well.
If possible check on the Microsoft Domain controller if a computer account was created for your Linux system. The account name is derivated from the hostname of the Linux system.
Yes, the computer account is created in AD.
Then the join worked.
It's even possible to check this on your local system. Call tdbdump /etc/samba/secrets.tdb as root and check for a key including "SECRETS/SECRETS/MACHINE_PASSWORD/<your domain name>".
Thanks for that tip. I am able to login as a domain user using domain\username format.
Then this is very likely a YaST bug. Please see http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs/YaST which information is required to report a YaST bug. Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany
