Add: browsers, compilers. These three groups try to do everything under the sun, and the kitchen sink, and their components are often so intwined with one another (some sell that as "integration") that it is way too easy to break it. Build time is also an issue, we're talking about >1 hour for kernel and e.g. chrome. The average turnaround time people are willing to wait for build results is 2 to 5 MINUTES.
