You're not the only one. I run Nvidia and it destroyed my desktop
too. So uninstalling the intel driver won't help me. I believe it is
the Mesa drivers because this has happened before....something about
the driver doesn't get compiled for the kernel version. I'm hoping
we'll get a fix in a few hours. Fortunately, I have another computer
available so it's not emergency yet but quite inconvenient. If it
persists too long I'll have to try the compositing trick.....

During booting, there is massive video tearing when the lightbulb appears. Mouse movement causes black areas to appear under the mouse. In konsole, pressing a key causes the whole line to go black, same with program output. The system is unusable this way.
My backup system is fine, so it is likely not a hardware problem (but primary system runs on SSD, backup on HD).
There are no problems when booting into a level 3 system without desktop.
I hope I'm not the only one with this problem.
