At this point, the initrd is generated, which may need some time. Check the process list for details, and do not kill it before you have ascertained it is not actually doing something.
How many kernels do you have in /boot? When the update needs to run mkinitrd, it does so for each of them, and that can take a long time. I usually have 5 or 6 such kernels, and it takes 20-30 minutes on my 2.0 GHz dual-core CPU.

I had the same issue with the last kernel update in tumbleweed. I was able to get it to take by doing kill -KILL pango-querymodules while the kernel install was hung.
