No problemo! At the very least i got a response.
In all seriousness i am wanting to learn more, but it can be hard
wading through all the results from Uncle Google and trying to discern
fact from fiction. You guys are the experts, that's why i'm asking
you.
I am now going to have a proper look at exactly what dependencies i
need for Crossover/Wine on openSUSE. Unfortunately the install process
on my previous setup - openSUSE Tumbleweed (12.1) was a lot more
straight-forward process. On openSUSE 12.2 i had to install all the
Wine dependencies myself even when using the crossover.rpm file. This
is where the problem started.

Trent

Thanks Jan for your response.
Hi Trent¸
Really the tone is unnecessary here Please excuse Jan and Carlos and please understand that many people on this list don't even understand why Jan's response came over as unfriendly to you. This is unfortunately how people on this and most other openSUSE lists communicate: terse and without the 'friendly boilerplate' that is common to most cultures.
It is not meant to be rude and I can assure you Jan is a very nice person - but like most here, he does not bother to add the 4 or 5 words which would make his response that much more inviting and friendly.
I'm sorry for that, it is off-putting for many potential users and contributors. But, as Carlos made clear in his response to you, the list participants like it this way and are even proud of their 'directness'. Being friendly is considered hypocritical and all that - it's a cultural thing. I'm not even sure how to get it in some of the heads here that being nice just makes things nicer... Suggestions are welcome.
Maybe the next openSUSE conference should have a mandatory group hug after all... ;-)
Have a nice day, Jos
, i was just looking for guidance on what the repository is - i can't find any reference to it on the page: http://en.opensuse.org/Package_repositories or the links to other repos it provides.
I took the dive and disabled Network12.2 then switched repos to Tumbleweed and upgraded. I had no problems, and yes cyrus-sasl downgraded.
It occurred to me that this repo was enabled when trying to install the necessary dependencies for Crossover.
Im not experienced with the inner workings of operating systems, i just use openSUSE because its a great platform for my work - i'm an engineer working in energy efficiency - and i like Linux.

This is going to sound like a noob question but...
I am in the process of switching over to Tumbleweed from openSUSE12.2
base.
Somewhere along the line i gathered a bunch of repos which i don't know if i actually need anymore. This includes: Network12.2 -
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network/openSUSE_12.2/
The basic rule is: if you do not know why you need it, you in fact do not need it. This applies to *ANY* extra repository.
The only package i have installed from it (what i can tell using YAST) is one called "cyrus-sasl-devel" - v2.1.25-55.1. Looks to be a newer version than the one in Current Oss.
And: do you care? Do you absolutely need a newer version of cyrus- sasl? If and only if you did, you would already know that you needed the repo.
