It's buggy but throwing it out without fixing the bugs gives no way for a regular user to install updates without becoming root, as Martin points out.
It's been going on so long though Will. All the folk I maintain system for, I remove it. And leave instructions for updating with software manager or zypper. And I lost count of the people in the forum who managed to screw their system with using it.
that's the thing: from my point of view i've never seen anything like a concerted effort to fix those bugs. it's pointed out that it's either packagekit or libzypp's fault, depending on who you ask, and as it appears from my end, neither of the maintainers are willing to work together to fix the thing. as user i could write endless bug reports, but none of the concerned parties seem willing to do anyting about it. i do want to help the distro to fix this, but getting involved in, or even understanding the politics and problems between all concerned parties is above my paygrade. as long as it looks like this, i just get rid of it, and that's the only thing i can honestly recommend to other users. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
