But... ugggh... Nepomuk/Strigi is back with a vengeance :-( After installing and logging out/in it pegged both cores for about 10 minutes. During this time, it can take a minute or longer for a click in the System Settings window to register. Clicking the Desktop Search icon... at any point means a loooooooong wait before getting any control back on the settings window. Evnetually it quit doing whatever it was doing (10 or 15 minutes) and the CPU load dropped to normal.
If it only uses cpu when indexing that's a feature. If it uses cpu while doing nothing, i.e. indexing being idle that's a bug. If something in the way nepomuk stores information changes within KDE versions it has to re- index/update.
True.. I was just surprised that it popped into my awareness since for so long it's been nice and quiet... unobtrusive even while indexing, and after bumping from KDE4.7.4 to 4.8.0 it really made it's presence known. Al core pegged at 100% and pure KDE apps were terribly slow. Anything not specifically KDE (eg Firefox/Chrome) was normal responsive, but KDE apps acted as if they had locked up... waiting a while it seemed to sort itself out.
