Would it be possible to bypass the maintainer? It seems to me we want at least the basic fixes in upstream and stable.
I agree, but I know not much about the issues, so I am not really able to push them upstream. All I can contribute is the statement "I'm using them for quite some time on 3.16, 3.18 and 4.0 and they make my life so much better than it was without them".
That's reason enough to push the discussion upstream. As long as there are bug reports, something is not going to be removed from the kernel just because of a lack of maintainer attention. Howelse does IDE still survive? :)
Last I checked IDE was still a healthy kernel subsystem. Used in embedded applications. (I haven't checked in 2 or 3 years, but it was definitely actively maintained then.)
