[opensuse-factory] your patches for bcache gc
Hi, I am sorry to touch this topic again, but I think something needs to be done. Your patches for bcache have been included in the OS kernel for months yet they don't go upstream. Would it be possible to bypass the maintainer? It seems to me we want at least the basic fixes in upstream and stable. Well yes. Upstream was basically dead when I decided that I need those patches to make bcache usable in my primitive setup. I just scraped those patches from the mailing list and found they fix my issues.

I agree, but I know not much about the issues, so I am not really able to push them upstream. All I can contribute is the statement "I'm using them for quite some time on 3.16, 3.18 and 4.0 and they make my life so much better than it was without them". But I cannot contribute anything to technical discussions on why these patches make sense (or not) and if they are really fixing things by curing the disease or if they are just fixing them by accident (side effects of changed timing or such). Best regards, and thanks for your efforts, because including these patches really makes my life so much better :-) -- Stefan Seyfried "For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled." -- Richard Feynman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

That's reason enough to push the discussion upstream. As long as there are bug reports, something is not going to be removed from the kernel just because of a lack of maintainer attention. Howelse does IDE still survive? :) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Last I checked IDE was still a healthy kernel subsystem. Used in embedded applications. (I haven't checked in 2 or 3 years, but it was definitely actively maintained then.)
