Sure, I probably should have written "a NetworkManager frontend", which YaST isn't. But I think that might have been more confusing.
Additionally, at least for simple wired interface configurations, NM was able to read the YaST configured ifcfg-ethX files just fine last time I looked.
No idea. But I'm sure it won't read the keyphrase set with YaST if the connection was setup with NM and configured to store for the user only (as is the default). ;-)
For the connection to be established during boot already, you need to tick
"Allow all users to connect", and the password needs to be stored system-wide ("Store password for all users (not encrypted)" on the "Wi-Fi Security" tab). You just told me in the other mail that this is not true ;-) (it is, of course)
