Greetings, Stephan
OK, so several questions need to be asked at this news: *What were the terms that we were distributing Fluendo's MP3 plugin with? According to Fluendo's website[1], the package itself is a redistribution contract allowing the distribution of the package in the distro (now I'm sure there is a clause that allows Fluendo to kill the contract at any time, but just wondering). *Have they done this to any other distros, or is it just openSUSE? I'm looking around to other distros websites and mailinglists to see, but if it's just us then perhaps we've violated the contract or something. Did they say anything that can be told to us as to the reason? *Is there a possibility they plan on charging for this in the future, thus the asking to be pulled out of distros? I see it's still available for download from the website. Either way, MP3 playback is pretty much essential IMHO to most people, including myself, so it's a good idea to see what at all we can do to make sure we provide this service to our users, even if it means only offering MP3 playback to those who purchase a copy of openSUSE (to cover a possible license fee).
