I could agree with you. However, let me point that right now this is
just no the way how openSUSE works: every adminstration action needs
root password to be entered (i.e. laucnching YAST), so to it's
coherent that WiFi configuration at system level works the same way.
This is different to how other (Ubuntu...?) distros with sudo work:
they usually ask for the user's password, not root's. Althoug I guess
this only works for "admin"-type users, not normal ones.
I really don't know the pros & cons of this behaviour, though.

That could be a problem for a "corporate" notebook. If a user wants to take it home (or elsewhere) and connect via WiFi, what happens if they don't have the root password? Thats a really good point. The authentication should be sudo-esque then using
