It seems that we are getting closer and closer to a new boot experience. We have resolved the tty issue and are now running Plymouth and the Graphical session on tty7, keeping the same user experience as before plymouth.
The plymouth package has been submitted to Factory in order to get the necessary legal and source review.
If you would like to help us testing the package and the integration with other packages, then now is the time to do so.
Instructions for installation, etc can be found on the following wiki-page:

I also would like to thank Jeff Mahony and Christian Rodriguez for their work on the plymouth packages. They created the foundation on which I continued.
removed vga= and added "splash quiet" system came up with X on tty7 first time booted to rl 3 and boot was quite slow, not measured. second time to rl 5 and appear relatively quicker cannot comment on "flicker" as I have never fount it disconcerting or that noticable did notice that *most* of the startup messages appear now on tty7 rather than tty1, but not all uname -a: Linux crash2 3.2.0-2-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Jan 25 10:51:08 UTC 2012 (2206a5c) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3800+ -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
