I think that is a red-herring.
I really think a docker container is unique enough of a requirement to have its own minimum pattern.
Fine, call it an "appliance image" then - the smaller the image when dealing with VM migration across hosts, the better.
Proposal: "minimum server" (now) to become: "minimal (base for appliance or container)" This can become the "bare minimum" that the other patterns include as common base, a "standalone server" pattern can be based on this, plus yast(ncurses), firewall, and sshd.
