To end the thread, I resolved the issue. It seems that the latest libzypp got some fixed with regards to the recommends for already installed packages. Validating with someone who didn't see my issue, learned me that I have to set the option now that yast should ignore the recommends for the already installed packages on the system.

But that brings up an interesting situation: zypper/libzypp has defaulted to recommends=yes for many months already (practically forever), so even on openSUSE 13.1, one can observe: # zypper up --recommends Loading repository data...
