It is, and it has the 'windows uninstall structure', with an uninstall button. Pushing the button opens a terminal window that says: 'you are not root, bye!' So, that is why i would want to use a root desktop. AH! That's one of the very few times I read a valid reason to log in as root to the desktop.
Well, you can try to switch to VT-1 (ctrl-alt-f1), log in as root there, run "init 3" to kill graphics, then run "startx" to initiate a graphical session with no login.
Tried this, but without killing the other desktops graphics. Hope it works, but i fear to get the same message again. I will do so now.
After i ran "init 3" the complete terminal dissappeared, and all that was left was a horizontal blinking dash. Keyboard input gone. So the try to run 'startx' was in vane...
