That could be. I ran Red Hat for a while. I don't think the default should be access to anyone.

That way you could add whoever was allowed to access your files. To be picky, not you, but the admin:-P
I've been the admin, or root since we're talking about Linux and not Windows, on every Linux system I've used, including a mail and file & print server I set up at work 10 years ago. I support the idea of a separate users directory for common files, but that shouldn't be in someone's account. BTW, my first experience with network shares was with Netware 3.x and OS/2 Warp server (I still have the box here).
