Hi all: I am trying to set-up egroupware on a server so that I can use it for school (the default RM one is less than useful and rather limited). It is all (except e-mail) running nicely but when I try to go to the e-mail accounts I get lots of php errors: --Warning: imap_open(): Couldn't open stream {pop3.wsbe.org.uk:110/pop3}INBOX --in /home/httpd/vhosts/wsbe.org.uk/httpdocs/egroupware/email/inc/class.mail_dcom_pop3.inc.php --on line 184 --Warning: imap_open(): Couldn't open stream {pop3.wsbe.org.uk:110/pop3}INBOX --in /home/httpd/vhosts/wsbe.org.uk/httpdocs/egroupware/email/inc/class.mail_dcom_pop3.inc.php --on line 184 --There was an error trying to connect to your mail server. --Please, check your username and password, or contact your admin. --source: email class.mail_msg_base.inc.php --called from: , mail_msg: ensure_stream_and_folder(), called_from: from --mail_msg_base: loginerr_tryagain_buggy_cert FOR , msg_bootstrap: --ensure_mail_msg_exists(), called_by: email.boindex.index_data LINE 353 --imap_last_error: [Certificate failure for pop3.wsbe.org.uk: self signed --certificate: /C=US/ST=NY/L=New York/O=Courier Mail --Server/OU=Automatically-generated POP3 SSL --key/CN=localhost/emailAddress=postmaster@example.com] The server company I am using do not support 3rd party stuff so I am on my own a bit. I have looked at line 184 which is really just asking for username and password. Other than that, the messages mean something to me, such as 'certificate failure' which is some sort of validation? I have not set imap so am not sure why this is all coming out. Is imap still running and can't find the folders? Any help as ever greatly appreciated. Paul -- De omnibus dubitandum

I'd listen to what it is being quoted at you. I don't know egroupware at all but with email server problems I usually start by checking the basic services - in this case pop3/imap. The definitive test for me is to telnet direct to the relevant port and try a username/password combination which I know to be valid. eg. for pop3 telnet some-server.some-domain 110 +OK POP3 version xxxx ready USER username +OK User name accepted, password please PASS password +OK Mailbox open, NN messages QUIT +OK Sayonara If you want to you can do more detailed tests using LIST, STAT, RETR etc, but this is enough to prove that the service is working at a basic level. You can do the same thing for smtp and imap. I can't remember the commands for imap but they are more complex than those above. smtp is easy: HELO, MAIL from:, RCPT to:, DATA, QUIT or use HELP as the first command when you connect.
