Hi folks, I've set up an LTSP server in a local school. I don't know much about Linux printing. Could someone recommend a cheap (250ish) mono laser printer that is easy to set up (RedHat 7.2 on that box). Is there one make that someone has had good/bad experience with? Thanks in advance. -- Matt __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send FREE video emails in Yahoo! Mail! http://promo.yahoo.com/videomail/

We use cups/Kups on Suse 7.2 with both a Kyocera FS1000 and a Brother HL1250. Both are ok although the Kyocera is rather flimsy mechanically. Kups makes setting up very simple. Dave Williams

I've nearly always used HP-compatible laser printers (there have been one or two Postscript ones). If you can get a laser that speaks native PostScript, you have absolutely no problem, as PostScript is the preferred output format for all(?) Linux/Unix graphical programs. The Ghostscript support for HP printers (PCL) is also very good - if you have one, and that particular printer isn't specifically listed in RedHat's 'printtool' printer list, then simply say that it's an HP Laserjet (possibly Series 4 or 5, depending on the version of PCL your printer supports). As for a recommendation, I'd tend to recommend HP printers. If they're too expensive for your budget, look for HP compatible ones, and you shouldn't have a problem. Hi all, I'll agree here. I've hung HP6L, HP6P, HP1100, HP2100 off them, without a problem, although I have had problems with a HP4100PS funnily enough, and I've not tried the HP1200 yet. I started with HP's running HP4's of RH5.2 systems. Also, HP tend to be good solid printers, but if you're going to give it much welly, make sure you buy a big un - HP2100, as opposed to the HP1100 which is designed more for personal use. We use HP4050s, but they are rather more than the budget the original poster came up with.
