It's a good idea, but the biggest problem that RM connect networks have are the software compatibility problem. We run an RM connect network here and we use two bits of software that have so many problems running on RM networks. First is a accounts software package called Pass For Windows. Every time we do a upgrade RM clears the BDE.. settings. Then we have Cami a maths program, just don't get me started on that. RM tried to make so secure that when 3rd party software comes and tries to do something technical, RM tends to block it. So you need that balance, the application wizard is a good idea and so is there user manager(but that needs more advance features). But file protector is a complete waste of space. The topic manager and their station manager are good. So it would be possible, and it should be done. What is stopping a lot of people going over to Linux is that there is not the software for it, you have got Corel office. But as most teachers are trained on Windows and Microsoft Office, they are reluctantly to go over to it. Russell Dyas Assistant Systems Administrator

I disagree that "Office" is even an issue. The software which is an issue is stuff like Kudos, languages programs, technical drawing, etc. -- Mark Evans St. Peter's CofE High School Phone: +44 1392 204764 X109 Fax: +44 1392 204763
