suse 9 and Dell laptop
Evening all I'm having a problem getting the graphics working on a dell latitude cpx laptop. I had the laptop setup as 1024x768 display no problems with suse 8 but since I tried to install 9 today as a fresh install, except /home, no matter what setting I try I cannot get the display right using sax2. Whatever I set it to the screen goes blank then gradually gets filled with white. I've tried install about 3 or 4 times now and I don't know what to try next. Nny help would be appreciated. Cheers Matt

I've been using SuSE on my laptops since 6.4 and I've always managed to get a screen of at least 800 x 600, 16 bit colours. What's the graphic chip; does it use dedicated or shared RAM? What Hz setting are you using for 1024 x 768? Are you trying to get it to display using 24 bit or 16 bit Did you select LCD or VESA when you originally tried to configure it? Login on a non-X user (ALT + F1 - 6) as root, and post back the XF86Config and I'll have a look. But no pormises. -- Best regards, Paul

It's ati rage mobility, not sure what ram it uses though I would hazard a guess at shared.

I tried 60Hz and 70Hz. I've also tried 800x600 @ 60Hz and 70Hz and 640x480 @ 60Hz

tried both. I can only try these if I do it from the install once the machine boots, when I try and run sax2 I get the blank screen again.

Thanks. Matt

Did you keep a copy of the config file which worked before? -- Mark Evans St. Peter's CofE High School Phone: +44 1392 204764 X109 Fax: +44 1392 204763
