Hi Everyone, Just recently registered on this list, and have been slyly listening in for the last few days... Background: Im putting together a report detailing my findings on replacing Win with SuSE, for a school that im working on for. I have done an extensive amount of research already, considering the fact that I was pretty much a Linux nubie a couple of months ago. As an early indication of progress, Im writing this from SuSE Mozilla; IE got the boot at the first opportunity. I have tested most of the schools software (across departments) with wine and managed to get half of it up and running -- there isn't anything too irreplacable in the other half. So then all was going great, until I started thinking about the following: I teach Computer Science and Information Communication Technology - and i'm having real problems replacing apps such as Access, and the macromedia suite. You don't need to tell me about the demerits of Access - I have been convinced of that a long time ago. What alternative could I use (if any)? I need something that can even be tailored to year 7's. As far as the macromedia suite is concerned, I just cant get it installed with wine -- even though I have read reports posted from people who say they can. Have any of you tried this and won? Do you know of any decent GPL school Administration system replacement I can get my hands on? Also... Thanks for all the advice filling up this channel to date -- even though it wasn't directed specifically my way, it has been helpfull!! Cheers Dermot Chat instantly with your online friends?
