Strangely, I tried 3com 509c's under Linux some time ago.
They have never been the same since :(
I'm not sure if the problem is in the set-up or the card, but I had the same response from my own system. I ended up using VIA-Rhine PCI cards instead.
I have had the same problem. I did sort it out once ages ago. It was something to do with the pnp setup and involved fiddling with the bios and using the 3com setup utility under dos. It happened again yesterday and like you I gave up and found a spare pci card instead. ____________________________________ Giles Nunn - Network Manager Carms Schools ICT Development Centre Tel: +44 01239 710662 Fax: 710985 ____________________________________ snip . .
Setting up new machine and new install of linux.
Set up minimal install. Used Yast to set up IP address / gateway. Used Hard config to specify network card type (3Com 3C509)
Tried to ping IP address - "Network unreachable" Tried rebooting to see if all programs needed would be run next time round - still no good.
Any suggestions (or pointers to suitable (easy) text)
Many thanks
