[opensuse-conference] Call for volunteers - Program Committee
Hi, As you may be aware (hopefully) oSC13 planning and organization is on the way and we have little time to pull everything together. The conference will take place in Greece in July. While there are numerous tasks that can only be accomplished by local volunteers there are also a plethora of tasks that can be accomplished from afar. One such task is to create a schedule, decide on tracks etc. For this we need volunteers to form the Program Committee. Being part of the committee is independent of attendance, i.e. you may not be able to attend but you can still help make oSC13 a great event. We need at least one person that has experience with Indico or a similar tool that we can use to accept papers. The team needs 5 to 8 people. Everyone signing up is expected to participate in a few meetings to discuss what tracks we should have, timing of call for papers etc. Also everyone on the committee is expected to read all the submitted abstracts. So feel free to jump right in, and respond to this e-mail or send me an e-mail directly if you are interested in helping with the program for oSC13. Note there is no conflict of interest, i.e. you can be on the committee and still submit proposals for a talk. I would love to be part of this committee, reading and evaluating the papers and writing abstracts, comments and evaluations. Also I hope that this work will give me the opportunity to know cool people and make good jobs with good results. -- Alberto Planas aplanas@suse.de / aplanas@suse.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org

I'll volunteer for the program committee regardless, but it would be nice if we could settle on some decent (like, not indico) management software to use well ahead of time. Ideally, it would allow the organizers to keep a single copy of the schedule (not split like with the Summit, and not in a giant Google Docs spreadsheet like with the Conference) so schedule changes can be identical on both the website and the mobile client. And so I never have to format javascript by hand again :-) I came across openconferenceware: https://github.com/igal/openconferenceware which looks better, but there might be something more ideal out there. -- Matt Barringer, Software Engineer SUSE Linux Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, DE GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg)

Hey all,
Robert thanks for taking care of these first announcements.
Honestly I was thinking we should go with Indico, because I was not
aware of any other realistic option and Indico is already set up and
running - also there are people that have used it in the past.
I agree with Robert that we should use a tool that at least one person
knows how to handle well.
Personally I have never used indico, but I've been told it is not that
complicated (or maybe I am misinformed?).
I see that, as simple user, I have the option to create a new
event/conference. Is it ok if I create a new one to test it out a bit?
I have also used pentabarf but only a little bit - that far I liked
it, I just think it has way too many options, not sure we need all
that. I am open to this suggestion.
I think at least 3 of you (Robert, Henne, Matt) have used Indico in
the past, is that right?
Has anyone had some significant experience with Penta?

I have used it for everything around oSC11 yes. CFP submissions, scheduling, registrations, badge printing, program printing. We would then need a volunteer to find a better one, setting it up and explaining it to everyone. Michal welcome onboard too :)
Let's further discuss the possibilities of the submissions system in
the first program committee irc meeting.
And we can use the wiki-page
openSUSE:Conference_meeting/osc13/program/[date] for the logs and info
of the meetings.
