[Bug 1165962] New: Firefox separation of the localization package into each language in a separate package.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1165962 Bug ID: 1165962 Summary: Firefox separation of the localization package into each language in a separate package. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: All OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox Assignee: bnc-team-mozilla@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: ilya@ilya.pp.ua QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- At the moment, in openSUSE, the firefox package has 2 localization packages combined. MozillaFirefox-translations-common and MozillaFirefox-translations-other, which occupy disk space of 67.5 MB and 163.3 MB, respectively. This is a lot and wasteful when you need only 1 Russian or 1 Ukrainian language! You have to add these packages to ignore zipper, and use add-ons built into the browser. I used it until I found out that in other distributions the language packs for firefox are conveniently divided into languages in each pack. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The only problem I see is the actual migration. There are, as far as I see, three options: 1.) Remove *-translations-common and/or *-translations-other without any automatic replacement 2.) Remove them, but install *all langpacks* as a replacement (even if only *-common was installed) 3.) Remove them, but install the corresponding langpacks for each package (e.g. all langpacks that are currently inside *-common, if *-common is installed) Option 1 is a breaking change, which I am (and more importantly, many customers) against. Option 2 makes matters worse for almost every user. Option 3 would have a neutral outcome, but the corresponding code to achieve this would be very ugly and hard/annoying to maintain. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Smart users themselves will remove the excess, and the rest will not notice the difference. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The main thing is to ensure the installation of only one language for new installations. I have the packages translation-update-ru, gimp-help-ru, libreoffice-l10n-ru in my system. I don’t remember whether I myself installed them during an expert installation or if they were offered to me automatically, but in any case there are no problems with them. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
