[Bug 1173738] New: NVIDIA module hangs when X starts
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1173738 Bug ID: 1173738 Summary: NVIDIA module hangs when X starts Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.2 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: martien.friedeman@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 839362 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=839362&action=edit The journalctl output for the session that hangs When I install the NVIDIA driver 'the hard way' with the NVIDIA supplied script it installs fine. A reboot makes the machine hang before X is started. I know there is an existing bug report for it already. I did not see a log attachment in that bug report. I've included my log here. Hope that helps with the debugging. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Apart from the failure of building the nvidia-uvm module, which shouldn't matter that much as long as you don't do any computing stuff. I don't see anything obvious in the log. But, this is still G03/340.108 driver, which is officially no longer supported by NVIDIA. And you're using a rather old card (GeForce 9500 GT from 2008!) which is unfortunately no longer supported by G04/390.xx, let alone G05/440.xx driver. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I thought boo#1170696 looks like my problem.
No, unlikely. That's a report for a rather recent laptop with Intel graphics. Unfortunately SUSE cannot fix/address any NVIDIA driver issues. Also the driver for your GPU of 2008 is already out-of-support. I suggest to uninstall the NVIDIA driver again and try with nouveau driver or replace your gfx card/system after 12 years ... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
