[Bug 340475] New: init fails to go to multi-user mode from single-user mode ( root-filesystem not mounted read-write)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=340475 Summary: init fails to go to multi-user mode from single-user mode (root-filesystem not mounted read-write) Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: ---
From single-user mode an "init 2" fails with many error messages because the root filesystem is still mounted read-only when init starts its programs. Probably some step during init should mount the root filesystem read-write...

(the only change in this area was in 11.0) anyway: the initrd takes care of the root-fs (mounting,checking,mounting-rw), so why should the normal boot scripts touch that again ? did you specify "readonly" on the boot commandline ? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

is this 10.3 or 11.0 ? (the only change in this area was in 11.0)
The bug report says 10.3 "final".
anyway: the initrd takes care of the root-fs (mounting,checking,mounting-rw), so why should the normal boot scripts touch that again ?
I see this as _one_ system: It should work, whatever the responsibilities are.
did you specify "readonly" on the boot commandline ?
No explicitly, or was your question whether "readonly" is a default boot argument? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
