[Bug 214202] New: Suspend led blinking after resume after suspend2disk
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=214202 Summary: Suspend led blinking after resume after suspend2disk Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: lashkevi@landau.ac.ru QAContact: qa@suse.de When I suspend my IBM Thinkpad 600X to disk the suspend led does not blinking, but when I resume after suspend, the led starts to blink and remains blinking till the switching off the computer. There was no such problem in SUSE 9.3, but it appeared in 10.1. I temporarily cured this by addin a line "echo 7 off >/proc/acpi/ibm/led 2>/dev/null" into the file "/usr/lib/powersave/scripts/restore_after_suspend_to_disk", but it is not a real solution. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Workaround: please try, if your machine works better with SUSPEND2DISK_SHUTDOWN_MODE="shutdown" in /etc/powersave/sleep Pavel, since this is also in SLE10, we might backport my fix that went into -mm recently. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=214202 ------- Comment #2 from lashkevi@landau.ac.ru 2006-10-30 15:24 MST ------- Yes, it works with `SUSPEND2DISK_SHUTDOWN_MODE="shutdown"'. The suspend led never blinking in this case (neither while suspending nor after resume). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

For some reason acpi_root_suspend/acpi_root_resume is missing totally in SLE10 GA kernel and I doubt this line will help that much. I have a kernel with suspend patches I like to have in for SP1 already build to an rpm here: /mirror/SuSE/ftp.suse.com/pub/people/trenn/sle10_SP1_hp_fix_cpufreq_ACPI_events_kernels_snd_try/ The additional added patches are also placed there if someone wants to have a look at. They include: acpi_root_suspend/resume added. Invoke those before pts_gts to fix broken fans on suspend on HPs. Thermal, battery, power and fan resume (and partially suspend) functions Process notify events in an own queue/thread (and the release global lock patch that is also needed for that). According to Ihno those break suspend to ram for him, but since his last test I modfied a little bit. I tried it once on an HP with broken fans and invoking suspend ACPI functions earlier, fixed the broken away fans after resume. I'd really appreciate some feedback on this. I only waited because someone promised me a machine to test on, but this is too long ago and if someone else tells me that this kernel is working fine and not breaking anything on his machine I'd like to post those on kernel list and ask for inclusion. Pavel, what do you think about these? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=214202 ------- Comment #5 from seife@novell.com 2006-11-02 08:30 MST ------- Thomas, this acpi_root_suspend/resume stuff is all very nice and important, but absolutely unrelated to this BUG. This bug is about "pm_ops->prepare()" not being called since 10.1, your stuff is much more fundamental (and still needs pm_ops->prepare() for completeness). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
