[Bug 917025] New: Degraded RAID cannot boot without the first drive
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=917025 Bug ID: 917025 Summary: Degraded RAID cannot boot without the first drive Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: rostyslav_smirnov@yahoo.ca QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- When /boot is located on a RAID device, boot loader must be installed on every drive that is part of that RAID, otherwise if the first drive fails, the system cannot boot up. Steps to Reproduce: 1) Install using the following partition layout: / -> /dev/md0 -> /dev/sda1, /dev/sdb1 2) Remove the first drive (/dev/sda) The system should boot up in degraded mode like it does if the second drive (/dev/sdb) is removed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I found that YaST Boot Loader configuration has "Enable Redundancy for MD Array" option, which fixes this issue and should be on by default. It seems to me that anybody putting /boot on a RAID would expect the system to boot up when degraded. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
