[Bug 772948] New: fingerprint reader stopped working after online update to 12.2
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=772948 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=772948#c0 Summary: fingerprint reader stopped working after online update to 12.2 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: jsuchome@suse.com ReportedBy: puzel@suse.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: Development Blocker: --- After updating from 12.1 to 12.2 RC1, fingerprint reader stopped working. In 'yast2 fingerprint-reader', the option 'Do Not Use Fingerprint Reader' was enabled. Enabling it in yast2 fingerprint-reader did not work, but investigating the logs pointed to a problem in /etc/pam.d/gdb-fingerprint. After removing the line with 'pam_fprintd.so' from ^^, yast2 fingerprint-reader could configure the reader. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Do you know what was the output of 'pam-config --q --fprint' before and after your changes?
Now, when fingerprint reader works fine, 'pam-config -q --fprint' prints just 'auth:\n'. I don't know what it was before, sorry. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

3. yast seems to recognize 'pam_fprint.so' the same lib with 'pam_fprintd.so'. Not sure why it would do this, the consistence issue in 2?
Technically, it's pam-config tool, not YaST. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

pam_fprint vs fprintd
While this is interesting discussion for Factory/12.3, the fact is that configuring fingerprint authentication with YaST2 is broken on 12.2. And that needs fixing. Switching from pam_fprint to fprintd is likely not an option for 12.2, but removing those unneeded files shipped with GDM is. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes, I agree on that part! Sorry, that was not clear. AS it's a rather 'simple' change to do: would you be willing to work on the update/maintenance release?
