I had OpenSuSE 11.0 without samba installed. But installed yast-samba packages 2. Went to YaST->Network Services->Windows Domain Membership and started setting up Domain authorization. - YaST prompted to install samba and samba-client packages but didn't prompt to install winbind. 3. This can (correctly) happen when you configure Samba client but do not check "Also &Use SMB Information for Linux Authentication". Otherwise it shouldn't set winbind.so module as required in pam.d Sorry to say, I cannot repeat the procedure because that PC is in production and I'm going to go to a business trip in few hours. But the YaST logs still contains the corresponding records. From the logs I cannot see why samba-winbind wouldn't be installed.
I dare to close the bug; reopen if you have any update.
