Otherwise, they usually block connections to other servers, including DNS. Normally, when you connect to this kind of open Wifi, DHCP (I think?) provides the DNS servers that are needed for everything to go smoothly. Yet, this doesn't work on my current Tumbleweed (recently wiped and reinstalled). I need to erase /etc/resolv.conf and restart the connection to have the domains correctly resolved (and then, when I connect to another, normal Wifi, I need to do the same, since those DNS are usually only locally accessible). Someone told me that it was possible to solve the issue by adding: rc-manager=symlink to /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf. I unfortunately need to wait on Monday to test this fix, but I was suggested to open a bug report meanwhile. Having to run such command every time one has to connect to the Wifi described above is not something a user should be required to do. Just encountered this problem too.

/etc/resolv.conf was untouched and wickedd/dns-resolver refused to update it:

I "solved" it by removing /etc/resolv.conf and restarting wickedd. I have 10+ identical installations, and this was the only one showing this bug. Perhaps the check-if-file-is-modified has a timing-sensitive bug? If it shows up again I will take note of the timestamps of the files.

It's not the exactly the same issue as the one mentioned in this issue, since you are using wicked. Do you still remember the content of /etc/resolv.conf when you found this issue? Here's data I collected/recall. 1. Connecting to another wifi, switching wifi on/off or restarting the network service made no difference (I believe a full system restart was also attempted). 2. netconfig complained about /etc/resolv.conf being modified. At that time, resolv.conf was as follows (I did not collect information on file metadata or unprintable characters, unfortunately). ### /etc/resolv.conf file autogenerated by netconfig! # # Before you change this file manually, consider to define the # static DNS configuration using the following variables in the # /etc/sysconfig/network/config file: # NETCONFIG_DNS_STATIC_SEARCHLIST # NETCONFIG_DNS_STATIC_SERVERS # NETCONFIG_DNS_FORWARDER # or disable DNS configuration updates via netconfig by setting: # NETCONFIG_DNS_POLICY='' # # See also the netconfig(8) manual page and other documentation. # # Note: Manual change of this file disables netconfig too, but # may get lost when this file contains comments or empty lines # only, the netconfig settings are same with settings in this # file and in case of a "netconfig update -f" call. # ### Please remove (at least) this line when you modify the file! 3. netconfig generated /etc/resolv.conf.netconfig . When this file was moved to /etc/netconfig, it was still considered modified, and was not modified when switching between different wifi networks. 4. Connecting to one of the networks sometimes resulted in an IPv6 DNS entry in the file, sometimes did not.
