http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1114569 Bug ID: 1114569 Summary: Need to delete /etc/resolv.conf when connecting to Wifi with specific DNS Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: flyos@mailoo.org QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Some Wifi (like open Wifi you need to register on a webpage to connect to) have their own DNS solvers that are needed to simply access the webpage to connect to, thus, the Internet (at least, that's my partial understanding of it). Otherwise, they usually block connections to other servers, including DNS. Normally, when you connect to this kind of open Wifi, DHCP (I think?) provides the DNS servers that are needed for everything to go smoothly. Yet, this doesn't work on my current Tumbleweed (recently wiped and reinstalled). I need to erase /etc/resolv.conf and restart the connection to have the domains correctly resolved (and then, when I connect to another, normal Wifi, I need to do the same, since those DNS are usually only locally accessible). Someone told me that it was possible to solve the issue by adding: rc-manager=symlink to /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf. I unfortunately need to wait on Monday to test this fix, but I was suggested to open a bug report meanwhile. More discussion can be find here: https://nm.reddit.com/r/openSUSE/comments/9tjpca/tw_why_do_i_have_to_constan... I believe the default should be changed somewhere on Tumbleweed (possibly only on laptops) to make this automatic and doesn't require a CLI line to work. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
