The touchpad does works after install, 2-finger scrolling included but there is no way to configure it (to disable tapping for instance). The system/preference/mouse menu has no touchpad tab. Doing a cat /proc/bus/input/devices returns this data for the touchpad : I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0005 Version=0063 N: Name="ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse" P: Phys=isa0060/serio4/input0 S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input8 U: Uniq= H: Handlers=mouse1 event8 B: EV=7 B: KEY=70000 0 0 0 0 B: REL=103 This issue seems to be a common problem however does not seem to have been reported. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Get an Asus K40in (or K50in as it seems to have same touchpad) laptop 2. normal install opensuse 11.2 (gnome live CD, I've not tried KDE) 3. bug is reproduced Actual Results: Touchpad works but there is no way to configure. See details above Expected Results: Ideally, - Have system recognize touchpad as elantech - have a touchpad tab under system/prefs/mouse menu... I'm using opensuse 11.2 KDE. "xinput list" shows no touchpad but ImPS/2 Logitech wheel mouse. Touchpad cannot be configured. As per the advice in Red Hat's corresponding bugzilla entry (Bug 549065: Elantech touchpad detected as Logitech Mouse), adding psmouse.force_elantech=1 to the kernel option line in grub seems to do the trick.

If so, I'm going to close this as per the above workaround.
Pending an official solution that doesn't require people to manually edit their /boot/grub/menu.lst file, presumably? This doesn't solve the problem for me - having the touchpad recognized and configurable by e.g. KDE.
cat /proc/bus/input/devices now returns "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad" instead of "ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse", and the device is fully configurable under System Settings > Keyboard and Mouse > Touchpad.
