[Bug 658155] New: X freezes while using firefox and can't be restarted
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=658155 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=658155#c0 Summary: X freezes while using firefox and can't be restarted Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: arun@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 SUSE/3.6.12-1.2 Firefox/3.6.12 run into this 3 times during the last 2 days and it always happens when I visit http://orgmode.org/worg/org-tutorials/org-beamer/tutorial.php using firefox (I post some version information at the end of this). When it happens the whole screen freezes, the keyboard doesn't respond anymore(e.g. hitting caps-lock doesn't turn on the LED). I can still log into the system via ssh, but after one second or so that connections freezes too... since I have that one second I'm still able to run commands via ssh (e.g. ps aux). I tried killing firefox and or other processes, but with no success of unfreezing the computer. I tried to run "su -c rcgdm restart" but it failed and also couldn't kill the X process (tried kill -15 and -9) also init 3 or init 6 failed, so I had to reboot by turning the power off... after rebooting I had a look at /var/log/message, but nothing there apart from my ssh logins... I'm happy to try out more things in case it happens again, but I'm not sure what other information to attach at this time... not even sure if this is a firefox/X/kernel bug... Here are some information about my system: arun@ape:~>rpm -qi MozillaFirefox-3.6.12 Name : MozillaFirefox Relocations: (not relocatable) Version : 3.6.12 Vendor: obs://build.opensuse.org/mozilla Release : 1.2 Build Date: Tue 09 Nov 2010 02:44:00 AM PST Install Date: Tue 09 Nov 2010 01:44:00 PM PST Build Host: build10 Group : Productivity/Networking/Web/Browsers Source RPM: MozillaFirefox-3.6.12-1.2.src.rpm Size : 3580752 License: GPLv2+ ; LGPLv2.1+ ; MPLv1.1+ Signature : DSA/SHA1, Tue 09 Nov 2010 02:45:08 AM PST, Key ID 026b47f3766da614 URL : http://www.mozilla.org/ Summary : Mozilla Firefox Web Browser Description : Mozilla Firefox is a standalone web browser, designed for standards compliance and performance. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. point firefox to org-mode tutorial 2. scroll up and down (e.g. with mousewheel) 3. doesn't freeze all the time, but it seems somewhat reproducable Actual Results: screen freezes, computer becomes unusable -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Output is attached. Let me know if there is anything else I should run if this happens again
Hmm, it looks like several processes are waiting for queued work to finish. Unfortunately I don't see "events/*" kernel threads where the deadlock probably occured. Could you find out pids of those processes and dump it manually by cat /proc/<[events/*] pids>/stack ? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
