[Bug 1005730] New: iwlwifi Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1005730 Bug ID: 1005730 Summary: iwlwifi Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: srinidhi.bs@microfocus.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 698186 --> http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=698186&action=edit iwlwifi entries from journal I know, the bug summary looks very similar to that of bug 911522 and I did go through it before filing this new bug. In fact, I don't see any updates released for kernel-firmware as mentioned in bug 91152, comment#2. Full disclosure: There have been 2 changes in my environment before I observed iwlwifi errors in my journal: * I switched back my kernel-desktop RPM from Kernel:openSUSE-13.2 back to openSUSE-13.2-Update since fix for my bug 957052 was finally released for openSUSE 13.2. * At home, I bought a new router and enabled an 802.11ac network (5.4GHz) While looking on the Ingternet, I also found this upstream report: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89771 I'm not sure which if I'm hitting the same issue or not. If yes, then when is the next update for kernel-firmware planned for openSUSE 13.2? I can provide the output of "iwlist .. scan" if it helps. Any hint here will be very much appreciated. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The kernel firmware package is basically always backward-compatible, so you can take the package from TW or Kernel:HEAD as well. Does the kernel-firmware update fix alone, or do you still see the issue?
Thank you Takashi for your response! I installed kernel-firmware-20161005-145.1.noarch from Kernel:HEAD on my openSUSE 13.2. I still see the same trace in journal. From journal, I see this now: Oct 22 18:36:35 srinidhi kernel: iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: loaded firmware version 25.228.9.0 op_mode iwlmvm This firmware was the same even before updating kernel-firmware - I mean, the version. I don't know if the new firmware is loaded. Also, another observation. If I connect to the 802.11ac, I don't see any traces in journal. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1005730 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1005730#c3 --- Comment #3 from Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.com> --- Then I'm afraid that it's an iwlwifi driver problem that has never been fixed for 3.16.x kernel. The firmware API version depends on the kernel driver code, so 3.16.x doesn't get any newer firmware in the end. If any specific commit fixes the issue (and is backportable), we'll happily do it. So far, we have no idea whether there is any such, unfortunately. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
