[Bug 1230333] New: docker-buildx: move to be a subpackage of Docker
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1230333 Bug ID: 1230333 Summary: docker-buildx: move to be a subpackage of Docker Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Containers Assignee: containers-bugowner@suse.de Reporter: asarai@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Target Milestone: --- Found By: --- Blocker: --- docker-buildx is a component of Docker, it makes very little sense to maintain it as a separate package (especially since docker-stable will probably mean we need to maintain a docker-stable-buildx fork anyway). It's simplest to just maintain it as a subpackage. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

For users referring to the official docker docs--the SLES (zypper in) section[1]--trying to install various plugins, it'll be easier to use the commands verbatim. PS. we should do the same for `docker-compose`. [1] - https://docs.docker.com/engine/install/sles/ -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1230333 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1230333#c2 --- Comment #2 from Aleksa Sarai <asarai@suse.com> --- Though we don't ship docker-compose (for SLES at least), and while I understand the wish to be compatible with Docker's packaging, all of their package names are already different (they call the package docker-ce, and have split the cli into a separate package, etc) so it's not really clear to me how much we get out of it. At the very least, there is no *need* to copy their setup because we have our own documentation and don't reference the Docker one at all. There should be a good reason to do something regardless of whether Docker happens to do it that way (for instance, we switched to shipping containerd as a separate package a few years ago because that made sense, not because Docker did it that way). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
