The network parameters are already set during an update. I still could not setup the network from the installation. Additionally, I had a difficult time setting up the network from yast. I tried setting the IP address /w mask, the gateway and the DNS servers. The network still was not available. The net mask was always set to /24. Even a few hard reboot and reediting did not resolve the problem. I did a new installation, blowing through the network setup by not trying to set the network parameters.. After installation, I used the YAST network app, setting the address/netmask, gateway and DNS servers. This worked. But not something I would use as a workaround. Still Tracking user errors... I've just finished the the testing, and in the configuration stage of installation, and I set the network to static address, DNS and routing, after click ok, I check it in 'Ctrl + Alt + F2' the 'ifconfig' show the address which I set it in YasT. The hwinfo file you sent through though, suggests you may have a hardware fault as I can see one part where the link is continually coming up and then going down again immediately. There may be a problem with your network port, or perhaps with the network cable or even with whatever router or switch you are connected to. Troubleshooting: You should first test with a replacement network cable. If that makes no difference, borrow a router or use a spare one to test that you are able to either obtain an IP address automatically or set a static IP. If neither of these work, the problem is with the network card on your motherboard. You will need to go into BIOS and turn it off, then purchase a replacement card and fit it into your computer. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Nobody can reproduce this error and the hwinfo you sent through implies faulty hardware. What conclusion would you draw? I gave you a set of steps asking you to try them for troubleshooting and you haven't. Additionally, you haven't tested against 12.3M1 to see if the bug persists, since there's nothing we can do about the 12.2 installer now. Hardware is not the problem. The installation stream/script is the problem. I have done your tests. Both externally and internally. Found no problems, except with the Novell/SuSE IP on rare occasions. Gets extremely slow and problematic. Might be the error you found. Anyway, I will try 12.3M1 when I can. But, many of my clients are more interested in UBUNTU right now. Go figure. BTW SUN does still exit, sort of. It still can be found under Oracle, Sun products with some poor software.(OK, I haven't tried the current SOLARIS). And other good software products. (jdk and netbeans have been improved) Hardware wise. I was there from the Campus thru to Ultra II. Software, I was there from Solaris 5.6 to Solaris 11. Bugtraq 1.1 to Bugtraq II I got RIF'd. But got to keep the hardware (hope the IRS never finds out). If you can check. You can find me on the Sun BugTraq II project. At the time Novell/SuSE & Sun had a "cooperation" if I remember right. O.K. End of flame retarding. I like(aka love) SuSE. My wish is that the new installations will register the ASUS NIC hardware properly. But.. I have tried a 12.3 beta GUI install. During the GUI install, when asked to selecting the addon installations, I select static addressing, insert the local address, mask, gateway and router addresses. After OK-ing I get the following: SETTING UP NETWORK FAILED Command: /sbin/ip link set 'eth0' up has failed The output of command was: sh: /sbin/ip: No such file or directory Which means I don't have access to the repositories needed/wanted during the initial installations. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
