On further investigation, virt-manager works fine when setting up a VM with the QEMU/KVM connection. The problem occurs only when trying to use the "QEMU/KVM User Session" connection.
Is a session libvirtd started when doing e.g. 'virsh qemu:///session list'? One should be started when connecting to qemu:///session. E.g. skifaster:~> virsh -c qemu:///session list Id Name State ---------------------------------------------------- skifaster:~> ps aux | grep libvirtd skifast+ 3019 6.4 0.0 786860 25092 ? Sl 17:02 0:00 /usr/sbin/libvirtd --timeout=30 If it is not started, enable debug and see if that tells us something. E.g. skifaster:~> LIBVIRT_DEBUG=1; virsh qemu:///session list Adding Cedric to the bug in case he has some other debug suggestions. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes it starts, ps aux shows exactly the same output (/usr/sbin/libvirtd --timeout=30). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sorry for the deluge, but just wanted to note here that packages for downgrade are available from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/badshah400:/boo980441/ openSUSE_Factory/ in case anyone is interested in testing.
The downgrade worked, let me know if there is a new version and I will gladly test it out. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Calin or Atri, do you happen to have apparmor enabled? If so, Guido's patch may fix the problem
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2016-June/msg00117.html
You can test by editing /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd with Guido's change and restarting apparmor. Thanks.
Thanks a lot, James. Worked on two machines I tested, both with libvirt 1.3.4. I call it a fix :) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

result of "systemctl status virtlogd.socket"
That checks the status of the system instance of virtlogd, not a session instance.
As you can see, virtlogd listen to "/var/run/libvirt/virtlogd-sock",
The system instance listens on this path
"/run/user/1000/libvirt/virtlogd-sock".
and session instances on /run/user/<uid>/libvirt/virtlogd-sock. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I see, my bad (I'm still a Linux newbie). Still, there is no file at /run/user/<uid>/libvirt/virtlogd-sock when I launch a VM, is it normal? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thanks for testing. I've added the patch to the libvirt 1.3.5 package in Virtualization and will be submitting to Factory/Tumbleweed soon. Closing the bug now (and clearing needinfo for Calin since info is no longer needed). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Unfortunately the new release today 1.3.3-2.5 (update from 1.3.3-2.4) has the same issue
You need libvirt 1.3.5, which has yet to hit Factory/Tumbleweed https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/400902 Alternatively, you can fetch it from the Virtualization repo. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
