So kbluetooth4 does not see a bluetooth adapter and thus does not show up in the taskbar. Workaround: You need to remove it and install bluez-utils and bluez-libs from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:seife/openSUSE_Factory After doing a 'rcbluetooth start' the kbluetooth4 is working. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When I turn on my bluetooth radio with the hardware switch, dmesg indicates that it is detected correctly. However, kbluetooth4 is not started automatically. The bluetooth adapters are both kensington (mini and regular). Then mini, 0a12, 0001 is not identified in 11.1 as a bluetooth adapter. I searched internet for similar problems: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=172267 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase-workspace/+bug/280997 Problems seems to be in KDE4, and can take longer time to fix. But there is wery good WORKAROUND !!!: 1. using KDE 4.1 install in Yast aditional "bluez-gnome" package. Standard "bluez" package can stay installed. 2. As a normal user run bluetooth-wizard (program from bluez-gnome package) and turn on bluetooth device. My mouse and phone were recognized automaticaly and I can use them now. Please note I am not using kbluetooth4 appelet in this workaround. 3. You can start bluetooth-appelet, (as a replacement to kbluetooth4) to have more confort with bluetooth icon in system tray. If you install also package nautilus (file browser of gnome), than you can transfer files via obex throug bluetooth icon pop-up menu what calls nautilus program, where you see your mobile phone file system. As I understood this is a problem between new Linux Kernel and KDE4, and it needs a lot of writen new code to connect KDE4 to Linux Bluetooth. It is not a simple fix. So I think openSuse developers cannot fix this bug at all, and the same problems has Kubuntu, Redhat etc (see links in Comment #11). My bluetooth mouse Logitech V270 with bluez-gnome is working OK, but transfer of files via Nautilus to mobile phone makes error as in comment #14. I am not sure, but bluetooth users could try to install 11.1 with KDE 3.5, if they have problems with bluez-gnome solution. I see solution as: 1. to notice this problems in Release Notes, with hint to install KDE3.5 (I am not sure if it works there) 2. to put this bug to list of Most annoying bugs, to make it easier for users to find workaround information -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Include the Kde3 bluetooth packages is not the solution because kde3 bluetooth doesn't work. It shows a disabled icon in systray and when you click on it says that there is no bluetooth adapter.
exactly! same here.
Gnome bluetooth doesn't work, kde4 bluetooth doesn't work and kde3 bluetooth doesn't work. I am not able to use my bluetooth adpater to pair devices and send files under openSuse 11.1.
exactly! same here. i even updated the bluez-packages with the newer 4.22 packages from different repos under http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:seife/ and http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:seife:/ like adviced in comment #1 but that changed NOTHING! it worked flawlessly with opensuse11.0 but not anymore in opensuse11.1. Why should a new bluez4 package help, if the bug is about kde bluetooth tools not supporting bluez4 but just bluez3?
do you mean the problem is known, and it is, that kde bluetooth tools only support bluez libs from version 3? that is the problem here? and if i use gnome-bluetooth-tools then it works? i will try that. so the problem comes from kde not from bluez? using gnome-tools is only a workaround. will there be a real solution in the near future? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Normaly there should not be any situation, where you need to manually connect the device. The Connection attempt always comes from the input device.
Also, kdebluetooth4 application does crash when returning from s2ram. I have to manually load kdebluetooth4 at each login and it does not auto reconnect after doing a reboot.
Sure, that should be tested more. For now i just ported it, to support bluez4. To get for example here: http://software.opensuse.org/ymp/openSUSE:Factory/standard/kdebluetooth.ymp This constellation has nothing to do with solid. This version uses the plain bluez libs. These bluez libraries are outdated and also no longer supported by the bluez development team. Sp please try to switch to Case 2. Case 2: --------------------- If you are using KDE4 you can use the latest kdebluetooth4 package in combination with the latest bluez4 package. kdebluetooth4 uses solid to talk with the bluez backend. Thats exactly the problem. You can not install both bluez version parallel.Only one bluetooth daemon can run at once. Maybe with some hacks and with renamed bluetooth libraries, to have the daemon find the right one, it would work ... anyhow. So in order to get Bluetooth in KDE4 you have to upgrade to the KDE4 stable repo?
What about the users that do not want to upgrade? Will they still get the fix?
Why not? No update - No bugfixes. If you use the links i provided, this updates your kdebase4-workspace package and its depending ones and of course kdebluetooth4. In the STABLE repo are the same KDE4 packages like they are on the 11.1 medium + patched ones (like kdebase4-workspace and kdebluetooth4)
Can I expect to get Bluetooth working only with "zypper update"?
I think (but do not know exactly) we will also provide an online update later. But this will update the same packages, like you will get with a manual update from KDE:KDE4:STABLE. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

so do i have to decide which version of kde works with bluetooth, and which not?
Thats exactly the problem. You can not install both bluez version parallel.Only one bluetooth daemon can run at once.
thats sad. in opensuse11.0 this was possible. i had both KDEs installed and both worked, and both worked with bluetooth.
Maybe with some hacks and with renamed bluetooth libraries, to have the daemon find the right one, it would work ... anyhow. But this is definitely the worst constellation and also the best to get new unwanted bugs.
agree. i don't want this setup .
My referral: use KDE4 and kdebluetooth4. With the current KDE4 desktop, there is no really need to switch back to KDE3 ... like in KDE4.0 times.
maybe i have to give it a try. but until now there was no need for me to switch to kde4. and i don't know if this bluetooth problem is enough to switch to kde4. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Now, for me is working, the only problem is that I need to restart kdebluetooth4 each time I restart the computer, but the bluetooth mouse works allready without restarting the kdebluetooth
For automatically starting kdebluetooth4 on KDE4 start, you can just open system settings, go into the "Advanced" tab, open the "Autostart" settings panel and add kdebluetooth4 as a program to be autostarted. :) That is, of course, until it will be able to do it by itself in the next version as mentioned in comment #74. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The applet shows and is capable of sending files to the phone from the computer. However when the phone tries to push a file to the computer (via bluetooth dongle), the phone fails to connect. Further, the following behaviour is seen: if one tries to send a file from computer to phone a bluetooth connection is established (and this sending succeeds), and immediately thereafter an attempt to send a file from phone to computer succeeds. But then the connection gets lost again. So in order to successfully send a file from phone to computer the connection needs to be trigerred on by attempting to send a file from computer to phone.
