I think it's more a kernel problem. The Ubuntu people are having problems since
the 2.6.27, too. See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/281949
My kernel's log shows the following lines when plugging in a Sitecom BT dongle
that has been working flawlessly before (up to including 11.0).
kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8
kernel: usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
kernel: usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0a5c, idProduct=200a
kernel: usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
kernel: usb 1-1: Product: Bluetooth USB Dongle
kernel: usb 1-1: Manufacturer: Broadcom
kernel: usb 1-1: SerialNumber: 2035B0000001
bluetoothd[7219]: HCI dev 0 registered
bluetoothd[7219]: HCI dev 0 up
rfhome kernel: hci_cmd_task: hci0 command tx timeout
rfhome bluetoothd[7219]: Can't write class of device: Connection timed out
(110)
rfhome kernel: hci_cmd_task: hci0 command tx timeout
rfhome bluetoothd[7219]: Can't write class of device: Connection timed out
(110)
"hcitool scan" also gives me timeouts, again a "hci_cmd_task: hci0 command tx
timeout" in the kernel's log, and a "Inquiry failed: Connection timed out" on
hcitool's stderr.
I'm currently in the process trying other kernels, to see if it is really a
problem with changes appearing in 2.6.27. It'll take some time, I only have a
2x500MHz box. Maybe the latest BT 2.1 changes have something to do with it?
