[Bug 208362] New: Bad grub location selected and unable to "auto" repair
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=208362 Summary: Bad grub location selected and unable to "auto" repair Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Alpha 4 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: hugo.costelha@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I had SUSE Linux 10.1 installed, and I was trying openSUSE 10.2, to help improving it by bug reporting. I had just one SATA drive installed with SUSE 10.1. I installed an IDE Hard-drive and started openSUSE 10.2 installation from the CDs. Initially openSUSE 10.2 sugested to use the SATA drive, so I changed it to use the IDE drive, and proceeded with the install. When it made the first reboot, the old (SUSE 10.1) GRUB appeared (with no reference to openSUSE 10.2) and booted the 10.1. I then booted again with 10.2 CD1 in order to do a GRUB repair. Then I noticed that the (10.2) GRUB was installed in the IDE boot sector. I tryed the repair selecting the MBR location for GRUB, although the (new) GRUB suggestion included 10.2 but not 10.1, but it failed to install. SUMMARY, there were two problems: 1. The 10.2 installation failed to suggest a proper location for GRUB, including during repair; 2. I was unable to repair the GRUB installation by selecting to install on the MBR. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
