[Bug 1193527] New: Black X screen after last update (nvidia/optimus)
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1193527 Bug ID: 1193527 Summary: Black X screen after last update (nvidia/optimus) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 3rd Party Driver Assignee: gfx-bugs@suse.de Reporter: P.Suetterlin@royac.iac.es QA Contact: sndirsch@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 854406 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=854406&action=edit syslog and Xorg logs from boot with autologin I upgraded my Laptop (Lenovo T460p, Skylake/Optimus) from TW 20211107->20211203. After the update, the X screen (sddm login) is black. X/sddm is running, and I can switch to another VT that will work. I tried bypassing the login screen by setting autologin, now X (and other applications) dump core, and login screen is started again (with black screen). I can switch to the intel graphics (HD530), that will work. But nvidia module(s) cannot be unloaded. nvidia card is an GM108M [GeForce 940MX], drivers (G05) are from the nvidia repo. Logfiles (syslog and Xorg) attached. I can boot the old snapshot RO, things work there. I tried booting the current system with the old kernel (5.14.14-1), but that did not work. I have another computer (desktop) with TW 20211126, same nvidia drivers, but 'full' card (GM204 [GeForce GTX 980]), kernel is a bit older (5.15.3) but also 5.15. No issues there. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1193527 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1193527#c2 --- Comment #2 from Peter Stterlin <P.Suetterlin@royac.iac.es> --- Indeed, that sounds very similar. At least when not using autologin - then it's just the login screen/sddm, without any crashes. But seems I can't issue an 'xrandr' there. Any signs of a solution for this? Or should it work if I just remove suse-prime, and only install the nvidia drivers? For most things the intel is good enough anyhow. I had used it, plus bumblebee, before - but that one's broken, too, since a while :( -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1193527 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1193527#c3 --- Comment #3 from Stefan Dirsch <sndirsch@suse.com> --- I'm afraid logging in blindly and then run "xrandr --auto" in an automatically Xsession startup would crash the Xserver the same way. :-( Easiest for now would be to switch to suse-prime's "offload" mode via prime-select offload https://github.com/openSUSE/SUSEPrime#installationusage https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/435.21/README/primerenderof... or to get rid of nvidia drivers completely. Then you can remove suse-prime as well. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

So I'm running suse-prime on nvidia (G05 from the nvidia repo) like before, without issues so far :) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
