[Bug 1218393] New: Weird screen blanking (power mgmt?) issue
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1218393 Bug ID: 1218393 Summary: Weird screen blanking (power mgmt?) issue Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org Assignee: gfx-bugs@suse.de Reporter: rs.opensuse@spitzenpfeil.org QA Contact: gfx-bugs@suse.de Target Milestone: --- Found By: --- Blocker: --- My screen blanks after screen power mgmt kicks in - as expected. Unfortunately the timer doesn't seem to reset. As long as I move the mouse (even after switching to a console) the screen stays on, once any screen update stops, it goes dark. Currently I to run 'xsnow' !! to keep the screen updating, so it doesn't go dark all the time. This is not fun :-( Where to look? CPU: i7-7700T Graphics: HD 630 P.S.: https://forums.opensuse.org/t/internal-lcd-of-laptop-turning-off-comes-back-... -- # VERSION="20231222" ID="opensuse-tumbleweed" -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Once screen updates stop it goes dark all the time. After logging off (KDE) it reverted to normal. Unfortunately this is not highly reproducible, but I would really like to avoid buying a new machine. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Interesting: the xclock window doesn't have to be on the laptop's screen, it can be anywhere and it still helps. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I've had a couple of days "peace", but now it's back. It may very well be a hardware defect. I'm getting a lot of these log entries. --- May 27 18:27:14 linux-1p8x kernel: i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] HPD interrupt storm detected on connector eDP-1: switching from hotplug detection to polling May 27 19:02:47 linux-1p8x kernel: i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] HPD interrupt storm detected on connector eDP-1: switching from hotplug detection to polling --- Moving the display hinge or shaking the laptop etc. doesn't change anything, nor does it trigger the issue. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
