The module will modprobe on it's own just fine. The system will not configure the soundcard and leaves it in an "undefined" state. The same laptop runs fine with sound under both xubuntu and opensuse 10.1. I believe the issue may be specific to the 1 cd KDE install. Error Follows: ┌──────────────────────────────┐ Error │An error has occurred. │ │ │ │If the the problem persists, │ │try passing options to the │ │ALSA module. If your sound │ An error occurred during the installation of │card still will not work, try │ │OSS/Free or another module. │ Latitude C600 │ │ │ │ The kernel module snd-maestro3 for sound support │ │ could not be loaded. So, it'd be nice to install it dynamically per YaST. Ladislav, is it possible to make YaST to install a missing package automatically? For example, snd-maestro3 on 10.3 requires alsa-firmware package. What I need to know is when install which package - which sound card (PCI ID) or driver requires a firmware package? Is there just one firmware package (alsa-firmware) or is there any other package? But, it's sometimes stored in the library modules, not the top-level ones. Hence, I guess it'd be easier to embed a driver <-> package(s) map in yast sound db.
