[Bug 215361] New: Transaction in progress - retry then works
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=215361 Summary: Transaction in progress - retry then works Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp AssignedTo: kkaempf@novell.com ReportedBy: dominique.leuenberger@tmf-group.com QAContact: kkaempf@novell.com Libzypp seems to reset it's status processing wrong after outputting an error: Look at this console log: *************************** sirius:/home/dominique/Desktop/src/Packages/ffmpeg # rug in mc Resolving Dependencies... ERROR: A transaction is already in progress sirius:/home/dominique/Desktop/src/Packages/ffmpeg # rug in mc Resolving Dependencies... The following packages will be installed: mc 4.6.1-49 (ftp://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/suse) Downloading Packages... ************************************* the two 'rug in mc' commands were initiated just one after another. The fisrt one is completely understandable, as zen-updater was downloading packages. Thus: a transaction was in process. The 2nd try should give the same error message, as in the meantime, the zen-updater did not finish! So apparently, after giving an error, libzypp cleans up completely and thinks no more transactions are going on. (in fact, the zen-updater continued it's work) Urgh: I hope anything of this is understandable. Installed packages for reproduction: libzypp-2.5.0-2 libzypp-zmd-backend-7.1.1.0_0.4-17 rug-7.1.100.0-7 zmd-7.1.100.0-18 zen-updater-7.1.100-8 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

So from my point of view everything works fine. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Try the following: Have your en-Updater do some huge updates (just wait for the next openoffice...) The zen-updater is locking the database (so far ok). Then you open a shell and try to install a new program (like I did in my first post using rug in mc) The task failes, telling the another task is running (the update). Even this is PERFECT like this. That's What I expect. But THEN: you just start again 'rug in mc' and THERE is the problem now: it does NOT say anymore, another task would be running and continues to install the program. (zen-updater is still busy at this time) So I would stay there IS a problem somewhere, no??? If you really don't agree, ok.. go for it and close it again. I won't reopen, promised. I mean I can live with it and most users probably believe what they read. I might have done the error not just to believe it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Now it is clearier. Has been installed mc correctly with the second run of rug ? Could it be that the zen-updater had already released the db while you have called rug once again ? Can you reproduce it ? If yes please attach /var/log/zmd* to the bugzilla entry. Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=215361 ------- Comment #4 from dominique.leuenberger@tmf-group.com 2006-11-03 03:20 MST ------- I remember I was able to reproduce this several times while updates were downloaded. IIRC, MC got installed correctly then, but the update failed. I'll try to reproduce it when new updates are coming to my computer (gee: I just finished the last 836 yesterday... so bad... but I'm sure more will come soon) Until I reproduce it and I can attach the logfiles, I'll keave the bug on NEEDINFO. Stay tuned.
