http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=901812 Bug ID: 901812 Summary: extraneous apostrophe in grub configuration (installation) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 RC 1 Hardware: i586 OS: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: peter@renault4.plus.com QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- During the graphical installation of 13.2RC1 on my old laptop, something went awry when it was trying to configure the bootloader. I noticed an error message which included some text "opensuse grub unexpected eof while looking for matching '". I was able to continue and restart the machine when necessary, but on the first boot it wouldn't load. I went into the Rescue System with the DVD and edited the grub.cfg file. It contained the following incorrect line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=" resume=/dev/sda6 splash=silent quiet elevator='missing showopts" I couldn't understand what the 'elevator' argument was so I merely removed the apostrophe after the equals sign. That got it to boot after I pressed a key because it threw an error message about missing showopts. From the running system I then suspected the part "elevator='missing" might have been put in there incorrectly so I removed it all and it now boots normally. FYI, I'd opted to leave the bootloader installation in an extended partition, despite the warning in red text it gave me that this could cause boot problems. (Because it's how I've always had it configured by default on previous installations). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=901812 Frans Leerink <f.leerink@xs4all.nl> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |f.leerink@xs4all.nl --- Comment #6 from Frans Leerink <f.leerink@xs4all.nl> --- Hello, I install the openSUSE 13.2 final system and during the reboot grub could not find the just installed 13.2 system. The openSUSE 13.2 final DVD was still in the dvd-drive and I accepted the proposal to log in from harddisk. In this install I edited the partition set up since the system selected my 13.1 partitions to install the system, while I opted for my old 12.3 partions. With the 13.2 DVD still in the drive, I made a new install, without any editing of the proposed partition set up, in my 13.1 partitions / and /home. The same problem occurred as during the 1st install. After shutting down and removing the 13.2 final DVD from the drive, I rebooted the system and now I can see two 13.2 final systems on respectively /dev/sdb1 - /dev/sdb2 and the other one on /dev/sdb6 - /dev/sdb7 partitions. I can now normally start the new openSUSE 13.2 final systems. Is this related to this bug ??? What info do you need ??? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
