https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=299639 Summary: After the update fron Suse 10.1 to Open Suse 10.2 the Cron services does not work.. Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jack.stoof@planet.nl QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer I have bin running the 10.1 for more then a year without problems. But after the upgrade to 10.2, I found that my user cron jobs are not working any more. I already reinstalled the cron package checked, checked if the service was enabled and stopped, started en restarted through rccron Commands, but nothing works. If I request status by using rccron status then it reports that it is running, but no cron jobs are started. Also the hourly, daily, weekly sections are not running, i have enter a script there, waited from more than an hour but nothing is running. Als checked the file cron.deny and cron.allow, but they are as installed. Only cron.deny is there and block gast users only. It seems that the cron option is not working at all. As i have checked everything that i could think of, i assume it must be a bug. Also several indication in forums and on internet indicated that i'm not the anly one that has these problems in release 10.2 Please advice or should i move on to 10.3 ??? I have found the reason for CRON not to work....
Aug 11 11:02:01 Linux /usr/sbin/cron[19463]: User not known to the underlying authentication module Aug 11 11:03:01 Linux /usr/sbin/cron[19470]: User not known to the underlying authentication module Aug 11 11:04:02 Linux /usr/sbin/cron[19476]: User not known to the underlying authentication module Aug 11 11:05:01 Linux /usr/sbin/cron[19482]: User not known to the underlying authentication module Aug 11 11:06:01 Linux /usr/sbin/cron[19488]: User not known to the underlying authentication module Aug 11 11:07:01 Linux /usr/sbin/cron[19495]: User not known to the underlying authentication module Aug 11 11:08:01 Linux /usr/sbin/cron[19501]: User not known to the underlying authentication module
It seems to somehow not to pass authentication ??, so looking at the authentication setup where i found the kerberos client to be active on the computer. I have enabled this ( long time ago ) to control the remote user that access this computer through the samba server. I have disabled the kerberos client option on the computer and cron started to operate as before, all problems where gone. Somehow this kerbos option was blocking the cron option, even for the main root user on this computer. because I shutdown kerberos i have, or better had some problems with the remote user that try to reach this computer, but i fix in an other way.
So please remove my previous bug report incedent as it is not a bug in CRON....
