https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=299559 Summary: ACPI video driver broke brightness changes on X60 Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Mobile Devices AssignedTo: trenn@novell.com ReportedBy: wstephenson@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: hmacht@novell.com, thoenig@novell.com Found By: --- Since beta1, trying to change the brightness of the display just makes the X60 panel flash off briefly (subjectively, less than half a second). Each keypress causes one flash. With thoenig's help we discovered that "modprobe -r video" solves the problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thomas, have a look at bug 260675 and close this one as duplicate.
'echo "install video /bin/true" > /etc/modprobe.d/intel-i810-xorg-x11' was the fix for SLED10 and will be in 10.3 AFAICT.
Why isn't it "blacklist video"? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Once 'video' has been loaded and unloaded, the brightness keys no longer have any effect, nor can kpowersave control brightness.
You need to prevent the video module from ever loading. After rebooting, thinkpad keys should work fine again. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
