[Bug 424091] New: Can't Print because of Cups Authorization
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=424091 Summary: Can't Print because of Cups Authorization Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: jsmeix@novell.com ReportedBy: John@ForteSystem.com QAContact: jsmeix@novell.com Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=238075) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=238075) Cups error_log I'm using Samba 3.2.3-1.1 on a 64-bit AMD with OpenSuse 11.0. I was able to print without difficulty using 32-bit OpenSuse 10.1 on an older computer, but now I'm stuck. Cups and KDE tell me I've successfully sent a test page to the printer but nothing happens. (My printer is connected to a Windows XP machine on my local network.) I've tried setting various passwords with lppasswd. I'm not sure where to set RunAsUser no. Attached please find my Cups error_log. I've tried every Samba printing how-to I could find. Would you please publish the correct procedure? This is what Cups has to say about the confusion using SuSE (http://www.cups.org/articles.php?L275): SUSE: What Password Do I Use At The Web Interface? Created at 07:51 May 20, 2005 by steve, last modified at 06:16 May 27, 2005 SuSE defaults to using Digest passwords and "RunAsUser yes", which means you have to use the lppasswd command to add accounts and passwords. To add a user named Steve: lppasswd -a Steve Then enter and confirm a password. SUSE does not follow the normal CUPS defaults and the lppasswd information doesn't follow changes to the normal accounts, causing a lot of confusion. Any problems using this set up should be addressed to SUSE. To set SUSE to the standard default settings of CUPS: 1) Goto /etc/cups/cups.conf 2) Change in <Location /admin> the AuthType: AuthType Basic 3) Change RunAsUser to No. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

See http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_in_a_Nutshell ------------------------------------------------------------- Up to SUSE LINUX 10.1 we provided CUPS 1.1 and since openSUSE 10.2 we provide CUPS 1.2 which is not fully backward compatible with CUPS 1.1. Therefore in case of an update it is recommended not to use an outdated cupsd.conf from a CUPS 1.1 installation before but to start from scratch with the original cupsd.conf from our CUPS 1.2 RPM. For example RunAsUser is no longer supported so that since openSUSE 10.2 / CUPS 1.2 the cupsd runs as root and therefore we are back to its default "basic authentication" via system users and system passwords (in /etc/shadow). ------------------------------------------------------------- -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
